Dijon, town of modern art - The Consortium.



Quand vous vous baladez parmi les vieilles pierres du centre-ville historique de Dijon, vous ne vous doutez pas être dans une ville qui accueille un des hauts-lieux de l'art contemporain.
Vous n'êtes pas les seuls, peu de Dijonnais le savent.

Et pourtant depuis la fin des années 70, le Consortium a défriché l'art contemporain, mais dans une ville tournée vers son patrimoine historique.  

La preuve de son activisme, quelques noms d'artistes exposés: Cindy Sherman, Dan Graham, Bertrand Lavier, Richard Prince, Pierre Huyghe, Philippe Parreno, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster,  Rirkrit Tiravanija.

Récemment, l'exposition sur le dernier livre de Michel Houellebecq, La Carte et le Territoire, a eu une bonne couverture média. 

La rénovation de son bâtiment par l'architecte japonais Shigeru Ban a peut-être été l'élément déclencheur pour la ville: oui, il y a bien de l'art moderne à Dijon!

Visite commentée gratuite le vendredi à 18h30 et le samedi à 15h. Visites commentées passionnantes.

When you are walking in the old streets of the nice old towncenter of Dijon, you are far away of thinking to be in a town with a headquarter of modern art. You are right, it is not very obvious. Few inhabitants of the town know that.


But since the end of the 70's, the Consortium broke the rules of the conservative town.

The proof ? Theses names of artists:  Cindy Sherman, Dan Graham, Bertrand Lavier, Richard Prince, Pierre Huyghe, Philippe Parreno, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster,  Rirkrit Tiravanija. They were in the field!


But, it is beginning to be known. A recent exhibition about the last book of Michel Houellebecq and the renewal of the building by the japanes architect get great press cover.


Times are changing: yes, there is modern art in Dijon!
